What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that primarily affects reading and writing skills. However, it goes beyond these areas and is fundamentally about how the brain processes information. Individuals with dyslexia may experience challenges in processing and remembering information they see or hear, which can impact on learning and the development of literacy skills. It can also influence other areas, such as organizational abilities.

It’s important to recognize the positives of thinking differently. Many people with dyslexia excel in areas like reasoning, problem-solving, and visual or creative fields, showcasing unique strengths and talents.

According to the British Dyslexia Association’s estimate, approximately 1 million school children have dyslexia, many undiagnosed. This means that in a typical class of 25 students, there could be three learners with dyslexia.

We chose to have our son assessed for dyslexia following some educational concerns. We were very pleased to have chosen Vicky as the whole daunting process was actually straightforward and easy to comprehend. The initial information gathering paperwork was thorough but not complex, detailing possible early signs through education and health. My son found the actual assessment quite enjoyable as he completed the various interactive, fun focused tasks. He connected well with Vicky whom he found to be very friendly and approachable.
