Dyslexia Assessment
A dyslexia assessment can be a valuable step for a child experiencing literacy difficulties, as it helps to identify their specific challenges and offers tailored recommendations to support their progress. It also empowers the child by helping them understand their strengths and areas of difficulty, boosting their confidence and self-esteem. Highlighting a child’s unique talents and abilities creates a more positive outlook on their learning journey, which may have been overlooked until now.
For parents and teachers, an assessment provides practical strategies to better support the child both at school and at home. It can also offer evidence to help schools provide appropriate accommodations, such as extra time in exams, access to specialized resources, or personalized learning plans. Additionally, it may point towards other areas where additional specialist support could be helpful.
Ultimately, a dyslexia assessment is a meaningful first step in shaping a clear path forward, enabling the child to embrace their potential and thrive.
What can you expect from an assessment?

There will be some pre assessment questionnaires to complete that will inform the assessment and ensure that Vicky can tailor the assessment to your child’s needs. The assessment will usually take place at Vicky’s house where she will spend the morning with you and your child. During this time, she will explore their challenges, assess their strengths, and identify areas of difficulty using a variety of up-to-date assessment tools. Children often enjoy the process, as it provides focused 1:1 attention and includes engaging, varied tasks that capture their interest.
Following the assessment, Vicky takes great care in writing a comprehensive and detailed report of her findings. This report, prepared in line with SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) guidelines for diagnostic reporting, will be delivered to you within 28 days via e-mail. Considerable time is dedicated to ensuring the report is of the highest quality, offering clear insights and actionable recommendations.
The total fee for pre-assessment information collection, face to face assessment and follow up report of up to 30 pages in length is £690, payable in two instalments. In recognition of the importance of being able to access timely and appropriate assessment to those that need it most, regardless of income, I am able to offer a limited number of dyslexia assessments to children who are eligible for free school meals at no cost. This is arranged through their school so please ask your child’s school to make contact with me to discuss further.
